Welcome to the Liberec Region

The Liberec Region is located in the north of the Czech Republic on the border with Germany and Poland. It is an area with a rich history and a wealth of natural, cultural, and historic landmarks, an area that is rightly known as heaven on earth for tourists, skiers, lovers of nature, and history enthusiasts.

The region is home to the protected landscape areas of the Jizera and Lužice mountains and the Krkonoše Mountain National Park. Unique timber-framed structures have been preserved in many places in this mountainous landscape. Visitors here will find a whole host of interesting places, particularly ancient castles and romantic chateaux. Also unique is the network of stone and metal observation towers that are unmatched anywhere else in the country.

The Liberec Region is ideal for an active holiday. Those interested in swimming or water sports will find all they need at Mácha’s Lake or in the Holany Ponds area. The area is also interwoven with a number of marked cycling paths. Meanwhile, the Jizera Mountains are home to one of the best known cross-country skiing tracks in the country, the Jizera Mountain Cross-Country Track. Many towns in the region also have a rich glassmaking tradition and visitors can see with their own eyes how world-renowned Bohemian glass is made.

Tips for trips

The Golden path of Bohemian paradise

The Golden path of Bohemian paradise, which connects the most interesting sites in this area, belongs to the most famous paths and to the favourite trails among the tourists. This red-marked trail is 98 km long. It offers variety of hiking tours, whose paths we can combine with other tourist walks. We can choose, whether we would like to enjoy the scenic beauty of the landscape and the formations of sandstones, or prefer the history of castles and chateaux, which are in plenty in this area. The Golden path of Bohemian paradise is really an ideal combination of both of these variants and it depends only on us, which of its parts we choose.

Trip to the Castle Ralsko

The ruin of the castle Ralsko is situated on a hill with the same name, between the towns Mimoň and Jablonné v Podještědí. For a long time, this landmark was closed for public. It lies on the edge of a former military training base, which used to be occupied by the Soviet Army. Nowadays, the hill and the castle ruin are accessible for public and well worth a visit, although the climb may seem a little arduous.
