The first official record of the village dates back to 1504. At the end of the 14th century a castle was built on the top of Ralsko. Nowadays the ruin of Ralsko Castle is the dominant feature of the village and surrounding region.

There are numerous two-floor timbered farmhouses in Noviny pod Ralskem. The most beautiful of them is situated near a bridge over Ploučnice at the eastern fringe of the village. Another sight that is worth seeing is the canyon of Ploučnice and water pool which the stream creates after going through the canyon.
