The first notes on settlement of the area date back to the middle of the 16th century. The first settlers cut wood or mined copper, lead and silver. The local tradition of glassmaking is known as well. Glassworks were in operation in Rokytnice already in the 16th century.

In winter local slopes offer goods conditions for downhill skiing and there are plenty of cross-country ski tracks. In summer Rokytnice offers numerous marked hiking trails and cycle tracks. Tourists will find any type of service there, from bicycle or ski hire up to sports and entertainment centres.
