The core part of the collection fund of the Gallery comprises of the collection of Heinrich Liebieg, son of one of the founding fathers of the textile industry in North Bohemia. Liebig bequeathed the City of Liberec his collection of more than 200 works by German, Austrian and French artists.

A collection of Dutch paintings of the 16th to 18th centuries had been on display in the Gallery for 14 years, besides the exposition of French landscape painting of the 19th century and Czech visual art of the 20th century. In March 2009 it was replaced with a selection of works by German and Austrian painters of the 19th century. The new exposition was given a poetic title - The Mirror of Memories.

The impulse to make the change in the exposition was, for one thing, the exposition of the German painting of the 19th century from the collections of the Museum in Augsburg that was being prepared then, and also the anniversaries related to 2009. The textile industrialist Heinrich Liebieg, in other respects also a patron, collector and donor of the majority of the paintings on display, was born exactly 170 years ago. Liebieg died 105 years ago, in 1904.

The above specified collection will be presented in the form of a permanent exposition for the first time; 27 paintings altogether, with their origin dating back mostly to the second half of the 19th century, will be on display. The collection contains several works of importance to the European history of the painting of the 19th century.

The collection contains for example works by Eugen Jettel, August von Pettenkofen, Maximilian Haushofer, Wilhelm Leibl, Franz von Lenbach, Gabriel von Max, Adolf von Menzel and Carl Spitzweg.
